211 is the
magic number
By MS. CHEAP
If you want to know where to get rid of things, try
calling 211, a number that was obtained last year by the
United Way of Metropolitan Nashville as a centralized
place for people to find help or give help.
All you have to do is call – day or night – and a
trained person will refer you to organizations that want
what you have.
Some corporate phone systems have the 211 number
blocked, and in those cases, consumers can call 269-HELP
(4357) and get the same service.
In Middle Tennessee, 211 serves Davidson County and the
surrounding counties.
AmSouth Bank and the Frist Foundation have been the
primary sponsors of this new help line.
