Grant to broaden 211

The Tennessee Regulatory Authority approved a $400,000 grant yesterday to the Tennessee Alliance of Information and Referral Systems to develop a statewide social services information hot line that can be accessed by dialing 211.

The larger cities, including Nashville, already have 211 numbers so residents can call to find out what social service agency may meet their need, said Eddie Roberson, TRA chief of consumer services. The grant would expand to rural areas.
